Alternative Energy and Infrastructure Programs
Los Alamos has active programs in a number of alternative energy areas including fuel cells, hydrogen storage, superconductivity and energy system reliability, solid-state lighting, biomass and alternative fuels, and international codes and standards for hydrogen use and storage. In addition, the Lab's extensive capabilities and unique facilities make it ideally suited to take on the difficult scientific challenges that will help us conquer our "addiction" to oil.
The Office of Alternative Energy and Infrastructure (AEI) manages projects supported by the Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) and Energy Delivery and Energy Reliability (EDER). AEI collaborates with other program offices throughout the Lab as we work to meet the needs of the Department of Defense, the intelligence community, and other sponsors.
We believe that, to be effective, discovery of new science must be accompanied by technological advances. Working closely with the Technology Transfer Division, we are actively seeking to commercialize a number of discoveries in this area. Please visit the Lab's Technology Transfer Office for more information.
